Adenoids are two masses of tissue found in the back of the throat. These are located higher in the throat and cannot be seen thru the mouth. These masses sit at the end of the eustaion tubes, the back of the nose and above the soft palette.
Enlargement of the adenoids may occur naturally (beginning when the baby grows in the womb), or it may be caused by long-term inflammation. Your doctor may recommend removal of the adenoids if your child has any of the following symptoms:
Children usually recover quickly and have little pain or other symptoms after surgery. Children can usually go home within 1 to 2 hours after the surgery. Your child will probably be able to return to school or child care the next day.
